Our 5th grade students received their first letters from their pen pals! All were very excited and had so many questions. They had time to share their letters with us and their classmates. Immediately they wanted to start writing back. We let them grab some scratch paper and a pencil to begin writing their rough draft letters. Next week they will finish their final draft letters and put them in the mail.
We have been busy bees the last month. Working hard and being involved in some fun projects. We had a mock trial to learn about our legal system. Each of us got to have a role such as a lawyer, defendant, judge, or jury member. We had a real lawyer there with us to help make sure we understood the process.
This month we began a research project on Oil Spills. We are using a WebQuest to help guide our research and making presentations. We also did something similar with the human body and we got to make a presentation to make everyone believe that our system was the most important. We had a great assembly called Opera for the Young. Some actors presented an opera for us and it was really neat! Really soon we are starting our endangered research project (the Panda Project) and we will be studying the elusive Andean Cat from Argentina! We can't wait to share with you all that we learn. Below are some pictures from us doing projects and some reading in today. Also we made a video for you to tell about our school! Enjoy and we can't wait to get your letters! Greetings from Metsokangas Comprehensive school! We have started our Global Innokas project "flying, bridges and pandas" some weeks ago. We have offered students EV3 lego robot club as an after school activity. There have been around 15 enthusiastic students from classes 4A and 4B playing our world game. They have coded robots to move from continent to continent and from big city to another one. Next time we will practise these learned skills and learn also something new. Our letters are on the way to Janesville. We are looking forward to hearing you soon!
